A charming Australian antique kookaburra brooch from the early Art Deco era, c1920! Made of 9ct gold with silver lining, this charming brooch features a hand-painted kookaburra on porcelain surrounded by a scalloped frame. The hand-painted scene depicts a kookaburra perched on a branch amongst native Australian wattle blossom and foliage with a lovely blue sky background. The blending palette is very appealing to the eye. Also, there appears to be a subtle blue shade on the wing of the kookaburra, typically characteristic of the blue-winged kookaburra! The picturesque hand painted scene captures the Australian fauna beautifully.
To the back of the brooch is a secure metal pin and 'C' connection. Stamped '9CT' "SIL.LINED" to the reverse of the frame, denoting solid 9ct gold bonded over silver.
Similar design brooches can be seen in the 'Australian Jewellers Gold & Silversmiths Makers & Marks' book by K Cavill, G Cocks and J Grace.
A quaint piece of Australian history, perhaps to add to a collection or as a gift to the avid Australia lover!
