A very sweet antique brooch from the Victorian era, 1870-1890 circa! The lovely design is reminiscent of the etruscan revival influence with beautifully detailed twisted wire appliques and a striking scalloped 'spike' border. The eye is drawn to the fanciful central applique which is embellished with a natural emerald gemstone and two white seed pearls either side, the pearls are more than likely natural. A flower repousse decorates top and bottom of applique. The brooch has a more recent pin and revolver catch on the reverse, and it's likely the brooch may have started it's life as a Victorian button and later converted into a brooch. No stamps to brooch are evident, an XRF test indicates 16K gold, pin is metal.
A very sweet antique brooch and depending on your desired preference the brooch could be worn as pendant too - a chain could be threaded underneath pin hinge.
