A beautiful Australian made LEGA marcasite bow brooch from the mid 20th century, c1950! Made of sterling silver, this stunning brooch depicts a good-sized bow or ribbon entirely lined with bright marcasite stones. The elongated 3-dimensional lucid open work is very elegant and milgrain edging adds further detail to this wonderful brooch. A darkened natural patina remains on the silver surface, adding a nice depth of antiquity character. To the reverse is a pin and secure roller-style clasp, as well stamps 'STG.SIL LEGA' can be seen.

LEGA was an Australian, Melbourne based company which produced some of the nicest quality marcasite jewellery from around 1948 and into the 1950's. LEGA was one of the first few firms producing marcasite sterling silver jewellery in Australia. 

Size of the brooch measures 7.50cm (3") long x approx 2.80cm wide

The condition of the brooch is excellent. Besides normal surface wear and natural patina the brooch presents in fabulous condition for the 70 or so year age! There are no marcasite stones missing, or damaged, and all appear original hand-set stones. A lovely vintage piece!
