An elegant vintage ladies compact from the late Art Deco era, c1937! Made of sterling silver, this gorgeous octagonal shaped compact is decorated with a lovely engine turned pattern to the front and back. The compact opens to reveal a round mirror, a silver inset frame and gold tone frame to opposite side (both of which can be removed, if you desire). Used as a vanity powder compact in the day, today this mirrored compact would make a luxe handbag necessity for any vintage lover!
Size of the compact measures 2 & 1/2 (6.50cm) side to side, and approx 8mm thick
The compact bears a crisp set of English hallmarks, stamped to the inside; an 'anchor' (Birmingham origin), 'rampant lion' sterling silver guarantee, and 'N' (date letter for year 1937). There is also the makers marks 'C & N' which is that of Crisford & Norris silversmiths. Crisford & Norris were a notable silversmiths company of the 20th century, operating from 1896 to 1976.
