A charming and petite antique pendant from the post Australian Federation era, early 1900's! The pendant is made of 9ct gold with a yellow bloomed (matte) finish to the rose gold beneath, exhibiting a lovely subtle two-tone look.

The early Australian pendant depicts a boomerang with a map of Australia resting above. The map of Australia is hand engraved with 'Australia', lines denoting state borders, along with stars and rivers. There is something else which I might add (if you haven't already observed?) there is no border between the states of South Australia and Northern Territory, as well Victoria and New South Wales. This is because NT was once part of SA up until 1911, and VIC was once part of NSW! Also it appears the island state of Tasmania has been forgotten about (once again!). A 9ct yellow gold split jump ring attaches above.

To the back of the pendant bears stamps 'M' and another which is difficult to decipher but looks to be the gold guarantee mark - just readable is 'CT'. The 'M' stamp was an unascribed (mystery) early Australian makers mark, as noted in the 'Australian Jewellers Gold & Silversmiths Makers & Marks' book.

Steeped with oodles of Australian history, Patriotic jewellery was made to commemorate the Federation of Australia (also known as the Commonwealth of Australia) that was formed on January the 1st, year 1901. Many stick pins, brooches and pendants were made to commemorate this special event.

Video of the pendant can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/83AKuU-HJiM

A wonderful pendant for the avid Australian antique jewellery collector. It would also make a perfect Aussie token for the traveler, or a gift for the homesick working abroad!

The antique pendant presents in excellent antique condition. Besides normal surface wear, there is no major marks or damage to the pendant. The hand engraving retains a crispness and the wonderful bloomed finish is still very visible
