A wonderful antique Bohemian garnet necklace from the late Victorian era, c1890! Made of gilded metal, this sensational Victorian necklace is encrusted with fiery deep red pyrope garnets. The necklace is comprised of a three dimensional round and tear shaped dangle to the front with crescent and floral shaped links making up the rest of the necklace. There is a tongue-clasp which is seamlessly disguised within the end floral link at the back of the neck. Victorian in design, it's construction is characteristic of the nineteenth century with the garnets set in closed back settings and fashioned in gorgeous rose-cut, adding further scintillation and dimension.
The necklace measures 49cm (or just over 19") long, the dangling front links hangs about 5.70cm (2+") and each floral shaped link measures about 1.00cm across.

The word 'Bohemian' derives from the kingdom of Bohemia, Czechoslovakia (now known as Czech Republic) where the stunning deep red pyrope garnet was once mined. Bohemian garnets are prized for their vibrant red hue and inner glow due to their exceptional refractive properties. Bohemian garnet jewellery is renowned for it's rose-cut form which are clustered together in pavé setting with very little metal showing, and closed back designs.
An exquisite example of antique Bohemian garnet jewellery. Sure to turn heads!
