A beautiful large vintage carved jade pendant from the 20th century, c 1920- 1970. The pendant is made of a very pale green nephrite jade, and often referred to as mutton fat 'Hetian' jade from northwestern China. The hand carved double-sided piece is quite a work of art, artistically carved depicting a double fish and double bat scene, along with hand engraving detail to both sides. In Chinese culture double bats are symbolic for double blessings, and a pair of fish is often associated with connubial bliss and harmony. The jade is semi-translucent to opaque and displays a glossy texture to the surface. Indicative of natural jade material there is a tiny darker green inclusion to the top and a very faint darker green inclusion to the bottom. A hand made loop and ring connects to the top of the pendant. No stamps are sighted to the loop or ring, albeit a test indicates in between 9ct and 14ct yellow gold.
