An attractive antique turquoise and seed pearl brooch or pendant from the early Edwardian era, c1904! The elegant piece is made of 9ct gold and features a lovers-knot and two 3-leaf clover motifs. There are two cabochon turquoise gems and eleven little seed pearls nestled into the motifs. The seed pearls appear all original and are likely to be natural as the brooch dates before cultured pearls were invented, however the pearls have not been x-rayed to confirm. The motifs rest on a subtle concave circular and open striated design forming eleven parallel rails. A delicate and eye-catching design! Attached to the back is a safety chain/pin connector for extra security, as well as a copper pin and c-clasp which has firm tension. In addition there is a wire loop placed to the top if you wish to wear on the neckline as a pendant - the loop is disguised at the front creating a 'slider' design.
The piece bears early Australian quality hallmarks - the 'sheaf' mark '9' (denoting 9ct gold) and "W" which is the mark for 'T. Willis & Co of Melbourne'. T. Willis & Co, and later Willis & Sons was an iconic jewellery manufacturer in the late 19th century through to the 20th century (1858-1980).
A gorgeous antique piece which would make a lovely pendant or brooch. Style to suit your desired look with this one!
