A striking agate bracelet from the Victorian era, c1880! This impressive piece is crafted in gilt metal and comprised of six agate links that form a magnificent statement bracelet. Each oval shaped link displays a different natural agate stone - each with their own personality! Starting from the top is one dark reddish brown agate; one caramel brown with milky white banding; one milky white with strong burnt orange banding; one clear with wonderful green inclusions (aka moss agate!); one burnt orange 'landscape' with druzy to one side, and lastly a banded dark brown almost black agate stone. The wonderful agate variations all come together in a dramatic arty appearance. Each stone is polished with a subtle bevel edge and carries a lovely transparency - especially in daylight when the light passes through!

The agate stones rest in individual low open collet settings with six split claws holding each one in place, links are hinged allowing for flexibility. The gilt metal is a subtle 'mellow' yellow hue and would complement other silver or gold jewellery. A large sturdy tongue catch secures the bracelet together, it is integrated into the end link for a seamless look. The average width of the bracelet measures 3.50cm (1 3/4" inches) and total length measures 16.50cm (6 1/2 inches) length.

The piece likely originates from Scotland. This type of jewellery (aka agate pebble jewellery) exhibits a colorful and exuberant display of traditional highland themes and signature. During the Victorian era, incredibly beautiful Scottish jewellery made the rounds and a vast majority of the stones were mined in Scotland's hills. A bold piece of art, this impressive bracelet is best worn alone. Something special for the lady with distinct taste!

Gilt metal
Six natural agate stones, varying colours and patterns, oval very subtle cabochon to flat-cut, all with bevel edges, varying slightly in sizes - approximately 34.50mm (average length) x 26.50mm (average width).

46.83 grams
16.50cm ( 6 1/2 inches) long
Very good antique condition! There is a very tiny nick and fissure to the end agate (seen under magnification) and two collet links appear to be slanted inward at the back, possibly originally like this due to the hinge mobility. The clasp works well with a firm click when secured and all claws are intact, as well as the stones being firmly secured. Overall the bracelet is in excellent condition considering the age. A wonderful antique bracelet to treasure for another century and more!
