A fabulous antique Victorian malachite brooch, hailing from Scotland from the late 19th century, c1880! Also known as Scottish pebble jewelry, the good-sized circular brooch is crafted in sterling silver with stunning malachite sections inlaid into the design. The malachite pieces are a vibrant green hue and display variation of striking banded patterns. The malachite was likely sourced and cut abroad, in Germany which was a main source of malachite in the 19th century. Separating the malachite is fine etched silver lines which flow around to the edge of the design, forming a curvilinear border. A wonderful contrast and finishing touch. The back has a pin and c-loop connection, as well as a small ring which was likely utilized for a safety chain.
A superb piece of Scottish history which would add an impressive accessory to the scarf, lapel or wherever you desire to show it off. Charming!
