A wonderful double horseshoe and arrow brooch from the Victorian era, c1890! Made of 15ct gold the colour is a beautiful subtle yellow gleam and reveals rose gold highlights where the yellow wash has time-faded - adding further antiquity character to the piece! The gorgeous double horseshoe arrow design is three dimensional; Two repousse detailed horseshoe motifs rest on a slight angle, along the arrow motif, almost as if the arrow has been 'shot' through the duo horseshoe. The arrow is also nicely detailed with a pointed tip, narrow pipe shaft and graduated fetching to the opposite end. To the reverse is a metal pin and c-catch which works well with good tension. No hallmarks are seen to the piece, it has been tested to 15ct gold.
In Victorian times the horseshoe motif often represented good luck and protection, and the arrow motif symbolized power and love - often associated with 'Cupids Arrow".
A classic Victorian piece that suits perfectly into modern day fashion styles. Steeped with oodles of sentiment!
