A wonderful ornate fob dating back to early- mid 19th century! Originally intended to adorn a watch chain for a dapper Victorian gent today this elaborately ornamented fob makes for a chic necklace pendant. The opulent design features chased scrolls, flowers, foliage and seashells. A beautiful golden yellow natural citrine decorates the base, the intaglio appears to be a crown and old ornate English font letters- "CC". The faceted oval citrine measures approximately 17.6mm x 14.20mm and estimated weight is 14.30 carats.
Fob has no stamps which is not unusual for fobs of this era. An acid and XRF test indicates solid 14ct gold.
Antique fobs, such as this one were used to seal letters or envelopes and the intaglio used to identify a sender, authenticate documents, and to insure privacy.. They were also worn as a watch fob adornment so they were always serviceable.
An opulent design, masterfully crafted, something unique!
