A charming antique brooch dating back to early-mid Victorian era, circa 1855! A beautiful calotype portrait of young 'angelic' girl displays to one side, placed underneath a bevelled edge glass or rock crystal. Opposite side displays neatly hand weaved human hair which is also underneath glass or rock crystal. The encasing is surrounded by a beautiful ornate gold frame. Pin a 'C' style clasp attaches to hair side. The brooch is unmarked, a test indicates rolled gold. Giving extra charm and intrigue to this mourning brooch is the inscription, inscribed along the back of border with what appears to be: "J.C Stuart Oct 20.. Feb 1855"
A charming Victorian brooch, perfect for the avid antique mourning collector!
