A fabulous late 19th century antique Victorian locket. Made from 9ct gold back and front covers and gilt frame the locket features stunning Victorian hand engraving to both front and back. Each side bears a different engraving - choose to your heart's desire which side! One side is engraved with a sentimental forget-me-not flower and foliage bordered with a striking scalloped/point pattern, reverse side has an elegant upswept swirl and scroll pattern (almost Art Nouveau!), with a plain shaped section at bottom - perhaps where your special message or initials beckon!
Enclosed to one side of locket features tightly hand-woven hair which lays underneath glass and inner frame. In the Victorian era wearing hair jewellery was seen as a form of carrying one's sentiments for the deceased. It allowed Victorians to carry a part of their loved ones with them. The hair was crafted by specialist artisans.
An elegant little locket with lots of charm and sentiment. Perfect as a gift, or to add to your Victorian mourning collection!
