A charming lyre brooch from the late Victorian period, circa 1900! Made in 9ct yellow gold and Australian origin, the brooch features a musical lyre motif accented with two garnet topped doublet stones and five imitation seed pearls. The double bar design brooch is decorated with an applied fluted fan motif either side of the lyre, and a coiled wire at the bar ends. There is a chain draped below, supporting a small puff heart. The original metal pin and "C" closure is on the reverse of brooch.

The brooch still carries the lovely antiquity 'frosted' gold finish and is in remarkable condition for the 100+ age. Along the back of brooch bears several stamps including "9CT" "375" (partially seen) and "R" denoting the makers mark which is that of Robert Rollason, and later Rollason & Co of Sydney, New South Wales (1888 - 1925).

The brooch can be seen in the book 'Australian Jewellers Gold & Silversmiths Makers & Marks' by K Cavill, G Cocks and J Grace, page 205.

A wonderful charming beauty which is becoming increasingly harder to find. Sure to strike a chord!
