This Victorian sterling silver and rose gold decorative bangle is a wonderful example of the Aesthetic movement period - 1860's-1900. The entire front of bangle is decorated with raised asymmetric lines and features distinct decorative detail to each section; centralised is a hand engraved scene with two birds (one appears to be a kookaburra) along with reeds and foliage. An engraved square pattern, vertical fluted pattern, rose gold flower appliqués and further foliage and reed engraving decorates the other sections of this bangle. A very crisp and appealing Victorian bangle this is!
This condition of this bangle is excellent ....considering it's age of around 130 years! there are no notable dings or damage i can spot just some mild surface wear and patina consistent with age.
The "STERLING SILVER" stamp and (what looks to me) like a kookaburra bird engraved to front hints to me that this piece is possibly Australian origin. Often these bangles were made in England with the corresponding English set of hallmarks, or sometimes no hallmarks or stamps at all. This bangle also bears another stamp (perhaps the makers mark) it appears to be a square profile with a line across each corner in a diamond-shaped cartouche. After some research we cannot identify the stamp to ascertain the maker.
The integrated tongue clasp to side closes with a click. Bangle measures 1 1/2" inches wide and 6 3/4" inches around the inside. This nice weight bangle weighs 54.3 grams.
