A wonderfully large cameo brooch from the early Edwardian era, c1901! The brooch is made in 9ct gold and the colour is a warm rose hue with yellow hint. The large cameo is set in a double gold bezel frame, which is decorated with a rope trim. The beautiful hand carved cameo depicts a 'Romanesque' woman's head and shoulders. It is detailed with curled hair along with tendrils and accented with flowers and a beaded (or pearl-like) hair adornment. A drape flows over the shoulders and rests on her lower neckline. There are splashes of rustic orange shades adorning her curled hair and drape. On the back is a silver-tone pin and a c-clasp connection - the pin has very good tension! There is a ring at the top which the safety chain connects to. The ring may be utilized to convert into a pendant if you prefer.

A set of hallmarks are just visible on the back of brooch. They appear to be the early Australian stamps - a 'sheaf' to the right and '9' in the centre, alongside the makers mark which is difficult to decipher.

An impressive cameo piece which would make an elegant addition to the outfit.

The brooch remains in superb antique condition. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the cameo shell or gold. The yellow wash (aka gilding!) which was originally on the surface has faded leaving behind a soft rose hue adding further antiquity character. A wonderful antique brooch!
