A charming antique brooch from the late Victorian period, circa 1900! Made in 9ct gold the early Australian brooch is made by the prominent late 19th century to 20th century Victorian jewelry firm, Aronson & Co. The decorative and rather regal looking brooch is a typical early Australian style and can be seen in the book 'Australian Jewellers Gold & Silversmiths Makers & Marks' by K Cavill, G Cocks and J Grace. The design includes a central shield motif accented with a 'star' set garnet top doublet stone. A pearl accented star rests atop along with coiled wire either side. A tapered flute like motif lined with four natural seed pearls adorns either side and two lush red garnet top doublet stones rest in claw settings alongside. The ornate ends of the brooch feature wonderful repousse detail adding gorgeous charm to this antique brooch! The original metal pin and "C" closure is on the reverse of the brooch. The brooch is completed with an original 9ct gold safety chain/pin.

The brooch is in remarkable condition for the 100+ age. Along the back of the brooch bears early Australian guarantee hallmarks including "9", "Sheaf" and a "Flag" which is that of Aronson & Co, and formerly Rosenthal, Aronson & Co of Melbourne, Victoria (1878 - 1947). There is also a production stamp to the end, difficult to decipher but possibly "K5".

A superb antique brooch which is sure to add a touch of class to the blouse, or jacket!
