A fabulous antique scarab beetle brooch from the Victorian era c1880! The gold filled brooch showcases three real scarab beetle relics! The textured dome beetles display a subtle iridescence of natural bottle-green with almost black near the center. The oval-shaped beetles rest in a fancy claw closed-back collet, each embellished with rope borders. A granule decorates in between. An elongated pin, tubular hinge and c-clasp are attached to the back.

Distinctive beetle jewellery like this one was very popular during the 19th century, influenced from discoveries of ancient archaeological at the time. Egyptian revival jewelry flourished and was inspired by ancient Egyptian imagery such as the scarab beetle and often worn as a talisman - revered to as a symbol of immortality and resurrection.

Considered highly collectible, this wonderful and oddly Victorian treasure would look dapper on the jacket lapel or scarf...
