A wonderful marcasite necklace and earring set from the Art Deco era, c1920's!
Made of sterling silver, the dramatic design at the centre of the necklace features an amalgamation of Art Deco and Art Nouveau influences. The stunning three-dimensional open design work is made up of coiled wire scrolls, marcasite lined 'flutes' and a sweet (fixed) marcasite lined heart at the bottom. An elongated articulated 'scroll' link supports the centre-piece either side, and an original trace-link chain with tube clasp makes up the rest of the necklace. The reverse of the centre piece is stamped 'ST STERLING' denoting sterling silver.
The earrings, which are also made of sterling silver, complement the necklace beautifully. The elongated design is near identical to the side links but draping in the opposite way. The design suspends from a screw-on fitting, swaying nicely on the lobe!
The sterling silver to both the earrings and necklace retains a dark shade of aged patina, creating a dramatic antiquity look that can only come from the passage of time.
A truly delightful set with wonderful versatility, the set would make an elegant adornment for bridal wear, or just as nice worn against a white tee and jeans casual look!
