A charming hollow antique cross pendant from the Victorian era, c1900! Made of 9ct gold, the colour is a lovely warm rose hue with shards of yellowish green highlights where the surface has been hand chased. A bloom finish to the gold (popular technique of the era) adds a beautiful matte sheen. The front of the cross features stunning hand-engraved work of trailing ivy leaves and a blank scroll across the centre. The cross has been reconverted into a pendant from a brooch. A ring and jump ring attaches to the top. Stamped "9CT" to the reverse, another stamp is difficult to decipher due to remnants of the brooch fitting.
The lightweight cross measures 4.30cm total drop with jump ring, 1.50cm across and 2.90mm thick.
The ivy plant/leaves has always had a powerful symbolic meaning since ancient times. In the Victorian era a trail of ivy often represented immortality and fidelity.
A beautiful antique cross with exceptional hand-engraved artistry. Perfect as a gift to that someone special!
