Here is a beautiful sapphire lavalier necklace from the mid 20th century! Made of 8ct rose gold and silver, this vintage necklace dazzles with a mixture of dark blue sapphires, greenish blue sapphires and white sapphires. The lovely varying hue's of the seven natural sapphires are indicative of Australian type material, and the combined estimated weight of the seven dark sapphires is 7.15 carats with the main sapphire at the base weighing approximately 2.20 carats. Fifty two dazzling white sapphire stones complement the dark sapphires nicely - the white sapphires are an assortment of the older lab verneuil type and natural material.
The necklace comprises of nine various shaped hand-wrought sections which suspend from a trace style necklace. Three elongated leaf shapes connects the four hand-pierced clusters including the largest pendant dangle at the base, and a paisley shaped section finishes at each side of the design. All of the sections have overlaid silver tops and gold bases, and there is milled edging to the 'paisley' and 'leaf' sections. Gorgeous workmanship all round! This spectacular vintage piece is reminiscent of Asian origin.
Total length of the necklace measures 17" (43.50cm) long.
Such a striking necklace on the neckline, perfect for any sapphire admirer … would also make a special bridal piece!

The necklace presents in very good condition. Indicative of age, there are some very light abrasions to some of the white sapphires (only noted under magnification) though the dark sapphires present in excellent condition with no chips or scratches to surfaces. All stones appear secure in their settings, none are loose. There is some light surface wear to the gold, albeit all link rings are closed firmly with no damage or repairs noted to either the chain or links |
