A lovely silver antique English fob medallion from the Edwardian era, c1908! Made of sterling silver, the rather regal looking crown-topped award medallion features a circular 'Order of Garter' belt buckle border with a stylized shield centre and plain shield cartouche resting atop. The cartouche is engraved with letters "H.S & D.N" - likely the original owners initials. Beautiful hand engraved flourishes and patterns embellish the front of the medallion, adding further contrast and character.
To the reverse bears the award message: "2ND PRIZE CARLTON COMP. CARLTON HALL 21.1.08." There is also a crisp set of English hallmarks to the back denoting Birmingham origin, year 1907 manufacture, as well makers marks "W.J.D" which is that of Birmingham silversmith William James Dingley.
A ridged loop attaches to the very top, allowing it to suspend from a swivel or chain of your choice - inside loop measures 2.50mm which allows for a finer style chain (or a jump ring can easily be added if you desire). The size of the medallion measures 3.70cm length x 2.30cm width.
Today this charming antique award medallion would make a perfect pendant, layered amongst other antique necklaces, or just as nice alone!
