A wonderful antique anchor pendant from the Victorian era, c1890! Made of 18ct yellow gold and topped in white gold, this distinct and detailed piece consists of a crown emblem at the top, a fouled anchor motif and a straight edge bar across the centre. The diamond encrusted anchor features thirty-two dazzling rose-cut and old-cut diamonds varying in size from little chips to around a 0.10 carat the largest; total estimated diamond weight is 0.50 carats. A rope entwined around the anchor gives extra detail and visual interest, aka fouled anchor. A crown atop adds a regal touch to the piece; the crown is adorned with recessed red enamel, chased work and a little diamond chip rests near the top of the crown. One lustrous pearl decorates at each end of the 18ct yellow gold bar. The reverse of the piece has a half loop (later addition) allowing for a chain of your choice to slide through. Stamped "18.C" to the half loop.
The piece measures 3cm height x 3.30cm across.
Throughout history the anchor holds great maritime importance denoting strength and security, a powerful token which was, and still today, regarded as a symbol of safety, hope and stability.
A unique and endearing antique pendant, steeped with oodles of Victorian era history!
