A graceful scenic stick pin dating back to Victorian era, circa 1880- 1900. The 15ct gold 'fanciful' scenic rectangular plaque is reminiscent of Art Nouveau period. The hand engraved and elevated scene is of butterflies fluttering above a swan gliding on a lake, amongst reeds and foliage.
In Victorian times a butterfly often represented beauty, joy and warmth, often paired with other symbols, another butterfly represented young love and undying bond. The swan was often symbolic of purity and grace. It is decorated with corner granules and scalloped edging. The stick pin comes in very old navy velvet and silk lined case. Plaque measures 17.44mm x 12.90mm.
