A beautiful antique locket pendant from the Victorian era, c1870! Made of 15ct gold, the color and texture is a wonderful buttery yellow - a beautiful soft glow which is lush and charming to the eye. This divine locket features a Pietra Dura panel to the front. Minute natural stone bits are masterly hand fitted together like a puzzle to form the white dove bird in flight, and a black marble background creates a wonderful contrast to the scene. Framing the Pietra Dura is a delicate Etruscan Revival- esque embellishment, combining granulation and wire work to form an ornate filigree design. Opening the locket reveals two perfectly kept photos of a handsome older couple, supposedly a husband and wife, and likely to have been the the original lady owner. The photos sit behind glass frame inserts which are all intact. A sturdy ridged bail attaches to the top. The locket has a 'velvety' feel, as well as a nice heft, indicative of the sublime construction.
A beautiful Victorian locket which will blend gracefully with modern day fashion.
