A wonderful and rare pair of shell dangle earrings from the Victorian era, c1870! Made of 18ct gold the spiral sea shells shimmer with a magical purplish green opalescence. As nature has it's own unique beauty, the size and hue of the shells vary slightly. Albeit the slight dissimilarity is not noticed whilst wearing and adds further character and uniqueness to the pair. The earrings feature finely textured gold acorn foliage motifs at the front of each shell. There is an engraved cone-shaped cap which the shell rests in and gold coiled wire twirling around the cap. The shells suspend and dangle nicely from a floret embellished shepherds hook fitting. No stamps are sighted to the earrings, an XRF test indicates 18ct gold.
A beautiful and unique pair of Victorian shell earrings. Very elegant, and would make a stunning addition to any antique earring collection!
