A spectacular antique Scottish pebble brooch from the Victorian era, c1870! The beautiful piece is made of 9ct yellow gold and features a stunning citrine quartz stone surrounded by vibrant agate stones. Dazzling centrally and resting in a claw collet is a citrine stone which displays a gorgeous transparent 'whisky' hue with bright orange flickers at every turn! It is possible the citrine was sourced from the Cairngorms, a mountain range in the eastern Scottish Highlands; many Scottish Cairngorm quartz material was utilised in Scottish 19th century jewels. The citrine measures 13.60mm x 10.06mm and estimated weight is 5 carats. The citrine is adorned by twelve unique and vibrant paisley-shaped agate stones. Each slightly raised agate stone varies in colour and type, including deep green bloodstone and gray banded Montrose agate; again, all likely sourced from Scotland's highlands coastline. The gold surface between the agates has a lovely etched design with a polished scalloped border ... adding further Victorian charm! A sterling silver pin and c-loop connection is attached to the back.
