A wonderful early Edwardian era button hook with a handle of polished red banded agate. The small hook was more than likely used to fasten the myriad tiny buttons on gloves. It bears English hallmarks - Birmingham anchor, lion passant denoting sterling silver, and date letter 'C' for 1902.
The handle is made of banded agate and is a work of art in itself- the colours vary from reddish-brown, chocolate brown to deep orange to cream and white, with a little pale yellow. The banded colours are quite striking. The sterling silver hook features a hand-engraved pattern to cap with polished ball and hook.
